Residents of New Hope - Yardley Area If your well has been contaminated by flood waters, the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is providing free water testing kits and will wave the testing fee to affected residents. The link to this notice, as well as a directions on how to disinfect your well or spring are listed below. If you cannot clean up your well, we have have all types of bacteria control equipment to help you out!
S&G notes regarding disinfection of home wells: Results can vary using this procedure, depending on well conditions. We have had some cases where only a quart of Chlorine was used, and the residual lasted for 2-3 weeks. In other cases, a large quantity of Chlorine was used, but was never detected in the building. We have also had cases where neighbors also detected Chlorine in their building. This procedure can take 1-6 hours or longer to get a Chlorine reading in the building. If the residual in the building is 50 ppm., then the solution should remain in the building 24 hours before flushing. If the residual in the building is 200 ppm., then the solution can be flushed after 3 hours of contact, according to AWWA guidelines. After using this procedure, we recommend that the water be tested quarterly for a year to verify that the bacteria have not been reintroduced into the well. We do NOT recommend this procedure if a real estate transaction is involved, unless all parties are aware of the action, and provisions are made to test the water quarterly for a year after the disinfection.
